    The Senior Software Engineer is a hands on role working in the Engineering department reporting to the Senior Systems Engineer and leading a small team of Software Engineers. The Senior Software Engineer will be undertake software and computing duties from requirements, design, coding, installation, testing and documentation. He or she will occasionally visit customer visits in the UK and abroad supporting Rapiscan solutions from bidding, design through to installation and support.

     

    Good communication skills, an innovative and flexible engineer able to work unsupervised on a variety of new and legacy projects.

    Responsibilities

    • Liaise with other software teams in Rapiscan and with PLC, Electronic and other disciplines to implement and design solutions supporting and improving the Rapiscan RTT product
    • Responding quickly to queries from Product Management and senior engineers.
    • Document own work and legacy systems for installers, end users and service engineers.
    • Mentoring of junior engineers and sharing knowledge.

    • It is the responsibility of every employee to report to their manager or a member of senior management any quality problems or defects in order for corrective action to be implemented and to avoid recurrence of the problem

    Qualifications

     

    Essential experience:

    • Strong       software design and development skill in C/C++, Bash, Linux, Windows, Multithreading
    • Bash scripting
    • Linux and Windows administration.
    • Networking TCP/IP, Ethernet, Fibre, Layer 2 and 3, NTP, SNMP, LACP, switch configuration.
    • Experience of SSH, RDP, VNC

    Desirable experience:

    • WEB coding (HTML, PHP, etc)
    • RPM creation.
    • Nagios.
    • Use a SCM systems (CVS, SurroundSCM
    • Jenkins Automation

    The individual should be degree qualified in Computer Science or a related discipline although relevant experience may be considered. Ability to understand complex systems and develop innovative solutions.

     

    Some overseas travel will be required.
