    Rapiscan’s X-ray CT systems are based on data acquisition and control electronics designed in-house. Joining the engineering department this broad role provides the practical electronic skills necessary to sustain and develop its electronics & firmware whilst providing technical backup to the service and manufacturing teams.        


    • Work closely with the design team in gaining a solid understanding of the current electronic systems, firmware and engineering methodologies for X-ray CT systems.
    • Support diagnostics and fault resolution at the factory during product manufacturing/commissioning and remotely to field service engineers.
    • Enhance and maintain TCL script based tools for machine control, board level functional test & system QA 
    • Build firmware releases and Linux RPMS from version management, develop and support scripted firmware install tools and GUIs. 
    • Turn around board level electronics & PCB designs as required to maintain functionality through component obsolescence, incremental product development and cost reduction. 
    • Enhance and maintain embedded firmware in ‘C’ and Verilog using AVR microcontrollers and Xilinx FPGAs.  
    • Practical hands on, test, qualification and diagnostics at system and PCB level.
    • Support external board assembly partners through component concessions, obsolescence and test.
    • Author technical documentation such as equivalency and test reports whilst working with the engineering change control board to ensure product compliances.

    • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.


    • Strong practical experience of industrial engineering for product sustaining and manufacture.
    • “All rounder” able to modify & develop TCL scripts, board level hardware, FPGAs & embedded software.
    • Practical hands on approach to working with circuit boards including soldering, reworking and measurement.
    • Adept use of processor J-TAG emulators/debuggers and lab test equipment, oscilloscopes, DVMs, PSUs.
    • Excellent verbal and written communicator able to converse effectively with production and design teams.
    • A flexible engineer able to pick up new ideas and tools quickly.
    • Specific knowledge of ‘C’ code and Verilog plus scripting languages such as TCL or Python.
    • Broad knowledge of electronics, digital, analogue and electrical circuits with a strong practical bias.
    • Knowledge of EDA tools such as Mentor Design Capture, HDL Designer, Modelsim, Synplify, XILINX ISE
    • Familiar with software development tools such as AVR studio & XILINX SDK.
    • Working knowledge of Linux.
    • Familiar with source code and version management such as CVS.
