    American Science and Engineering, an OSI Systems Company is seeking an Engineering Technician in its Billerica, MA Facility. 

     

    The Engineering Technician will test, build, modify, repair, troubleshoot and debug electronic and electromechanical equipment. Will support products in all phases of the development cycle and provide technical support to Electrical Engineers and other team members.

    Responsibilities

    • Support a broad spectrum of activities related to our X-Ray Detection Systems, including but not limited to design, build & test of electronic & electro-mechanical assemblies
    • Assist engineers with the creation of schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and BOMs
    • Assist engineers with the selection of; system components such as sensors, lamps, beacons, sounders; panel components such as circuit breakers, relays, terminal blocks; printed circuit board components such as resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits; and cables & connectors
    • Works from schematics diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform builds, tests, and troubleshooting functions
    • Performs assembly tasks such as control panel builds, printed circuit boards assemblies, multiconductor cable assemblies
    • Performs manual tasks such as soldering, crimping wires, drilling, tapping, punching holes, cutting wood & metal
    • Performs sustaining engineering tasks such as ECOs of released documents due to obsolescence, defects, and new features
    • Promote continuous product improvement by conceptualizing and implementing new procedures, processes or fixtures
    • Work closely with Product Development Engineers and Scientists, and handle a variety of diverse tasks with project responsibility

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering related field
    • 5 years' experience with electrical, electronics, and/or electromechanical systems desired
    • Proficient with the use of standard test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators
    • Knowledge & experience with PLCs, embedded circuits, optoelectronic components and/or low voltage power distribution (up to 480VAC) preferred
    • CAD experience (OrCad, AutoCAD, EPLAN) preferred
    • Must have PC experience especially with Microsoft office packages i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. and an extra advantage would be knowledge of LabView, schematic capture and PCB layout software
    • Must be US Persons based on ITAR definition (US Citizen or Permanent Resident)**This position is expected to be exposed to information which is subject to US export control regulations, i.e. the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of U.S. regulations
    • Physical Requirements

      • Due to the nature of our products, job duties are occasionally performed in confined areas, in awkward positions and/or in high places and may require climbing ladders, bending, stooping and/or crawling.
      • Ability to occasionally lift/carry objects up to 35 pounds
