Manage new product introduction and provide production support engineering for a specific product or group of products to meet customer design specifications. Develop and sustain process improvements to reduce production cost and increase yield.


To convert customers’ requirements into OSI Electronics UK format and the translation of build data onto the company ERP system (BOMs and Routes); create assembly instructions, manage the engineering change process, support production with process and quality issues, implement process improvements were justified, provide design support to customers and assist with quotes.


Specific customer liaison responsibilities are also required including direct contact with certain customers. This is primarily to aid the customer with DFM (design for manufacture) and to verify build requirements.


Assistance with quotations

  • Participate in meetings with potential customers on or off-site providing an insight into our capabilities.
  • Analysis of customer requirements to ensure we have the capability to provide the manufacturing service requested.

New Product Introduction

  • Liaise with customer / internal customer program manager as appropriate, working to project deadlines.
  • Preparation of BOMs and product specific Routes using the company ERP system.
  • Create process machine programs, build instructions and drawings and design and order tooling required for projects.

Production Support

  •  Assist in order review process (contract review).
  • Assist and guide the production team on the use of instructions and tooling.
  • Manage/perform planned preventative maintenance.

Engineering Change Process

  • Update BOMs, Routes, machine programs and work instructions according to the quality management system ensuring the appropriate areas of the business are aware.

 Process Improvement

  • Review existing processes on a regular basis and implement improvements.
  • Review, evaluate and justify new equipment.

Quality Support

  • Assist with process defect analysis including 8D reviews.
  • Assist with external audits.

Basic Design Support

  • Analysis of customer data to provision of DFM improvement suggestions.
  • Investigation of substitute or replacement components to suggest to customers.

General Requirements

  • Assist with equipment and services maintenance.

  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.
  • Some travel to other OSI sites, to customers, suppliers or equipment manufactures when required.


  • Educated to minimum ONC/A Level in physics, electronics or related discipline. High grade GCSE’s or equivilant in Technology or IT, Maths and English.  Proven experience in a similar role within an electronics manufacturing environment; proven experience in a similar role within an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Electronics component knowledge to enable proficient selection of components during the creation of a bill of materials
  • Knowledge of SMT, through-hole and mechanical assembly processes sufficiently to be able to produce documentation for a full turnkey product.
  • Experience of manufacturing equipment used in the assembly PCBA’s. SMT Placement machines, AOI, Selective / Wave soldering etc.
  • Experience of designing assembly jigs and fixtures.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 assembly standards
  • Awareness of design for manufacture for electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Awareness of circuit board test processes and APQP techniques such as FMEA.
  • Ideally experienced in use of ERP systems, illustration software, mechanical CAD systems, MS Access, MS Project, GC Prevue and data analysis tools.
  • Strong MS Outlook, Word and Excel skills
