Rapiscan Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of OSI Systems, Inc. designs, manufactures and markets security and inspection systems worldwide. Our products are used to inspect baggage, cargo, people, vehicles and other objects for weapons, explosives, drugs and other contraband. Rapiscan Systems security and inspection devices can be found in a wide range of locations such as, airports, border crossings, railway stations, sea ports and terminals, government and military installations and nuclear facilities.

Our Technology team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, who will focus on the software and firmware design aspects of state-of-the-art chemical and trace detection technologies, as well as enhancing and supporting of existing products in a highly dynamic environment. The senior software engineer will work closely with chemical detection scientists and engineers based in Andover, MA.


  • Develop and apply advanced methods to the creation, design and development of complex software/firmware programs and applications
  • Design and make recommendations for system components and the technologies used
  • Build and integrate system components and program controller interface for instrument control and data acquisition.
  • Provide insight and solutions to technical problems
  • Be involved in project lifecycle, from concept to test to deployment
  • Demonstrated “hands on” ability to produce results on complex projects
  • Simultaneously work on several projects and deliver high quality results in a timely manner
  • Act as technical resource for hardware, software, firmware and other technical areas.

  • 10+ years years of software experience for analytical equipment highly desired.
  • B.S. in Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • Fluent in programming languages and operating systems with demonstrated experience in: C, C++; OO design skills; Embedded Linux development in a product development environment.
  • Ability to read schematics and familiarity with electrical components.
  • Familiar with analytical instruments/devices such as gas/liquid chromatography, ion mobility spectrometry, and mass spectrometry.
  • Experience with laboratory test equipment such as, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital voltmeters, pneumatic controls, humidity sensors, pressure sensors, actuators, etc.
  • This position has the additional requirement of eligibility to apply for a US Security Clearance.

Desired Characteristics:    

  • FPGA programming experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience developing applications with Qt or MFC.
  • Team player with strong facilitation / interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self starter with the ability to work independently or on a team
  • Able to assimilate additional languages, tools, techniques and practices easily and effectively
  • Ability and willingness to learn quickly
  • Exceptional attention to detail and quality orientation
  • Adapt easily to rapidly changing requirements
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
